About

Prick of the Spindle was begun in March 2007 in the spirit of creating a journal whose contribution to the literary arts would be well-rounded, with an acknowledgement to the works of literary history. It is the goal of the journal both to recognize new talent and to include those who have a foot planted in the writing community; we are simply looking for well-written, interesting pieces that embrace the fabric of diverse voices who have something to say, say it well, and say it originally.

Prick of the Spindle publishes poetry, fiction (from flash to novella-length), drama, creative and academic nonfiction, articles, interviews, and literary reviews. Though we do not publish genre fiction, we are open to different forms. These may be more traditional, but infused with freshness and innovation; or experimental but not chaotic: if it is chaos in complete freedom of form you are aiming at, envelop it within some structure, even if it is only the structure of meaning.

To submit, visit the submission guidelines page for the link to the submission manager. Note that, as content for the online and print editions is different, there are separate submission processes for each. Online content is also available in the Kindle magazine edition, available through the Amazon.com Kindle Store. Prick of the Spindle was the first literary journal to be available as a Kindle magazine.

Prick of the Spindle is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is therefore a non-paying market (online edition). Token payment is provided on publication in the print edition. If you are a person or organization who is interested in sponsorship or in making a tax-deductible charitable donation, please contact Cynthia Reeser at pseditor (at) prickofthespindle (dot) com. Ad space is available in the print edition; please contact Cynthia Reeser at the previously mentioned e-mail address for full page, half page, and quarter page rates.
