The Trails at Mataleñas
by Gloria Bennett

I strolled along the winding trails
that overlook the beach at Mataleñas.

I welcomed the opportunity to go barefoot,
like I did when I was a child,
and the warm sand was soothing to my soles.

A strong wind drifted over the cliffs
and the air was filled
with the fragrant scent of wildflowers.

My body relaxed in a field of purple as I
listened to the distant roar of the ocean below.

Then he arrived, as planned, to join me
on the deserted hillside.

He reached for me, causing me to tremble,
as the moon peeked through a dark cloud.
