by Heather Hughes

Written in the coincidence of skin,
the trace of your electricity
and the vast newness of your body, a body
I have seen in snatches, once, in the dark.

You don't know you are one long poem.

No one has told you that lines
are composed of muscle and sincerity
and an unguarded smile.
That is all there is.

The spaces between words are the way
you breathe; you think you are at rest
but this is where storms gather. This
is the one place I could touch.
