  Fear Box
by Kristine Ong Muslim

Fear is the first language known to man,
the vacancy that discredits the path of light—
the one that tunnels straight to the landmarks
we have hidden as children many years ago.

Outside the box, rain is an artifact; it pours
before the unwitting weatherman's door.
Panic is equivalent to the slope of the
avalanche; it goes with the perspective.
