Doubtful

By Tyrel Kessinger

Oh man,
how faith
is the
end of all things
reasonable
and the
end of all things
undesirable.

We have faith that
oceans
won't swallow the
world;
the fast-crawl of blue
milk
spilled on sloped
hardwood
we believe,
lacks a drowning smite

and faith
that our ruddy hearts
beat in 4/4 rhythm;
that is,
red fists of meat
know only proper
Western cadence

and faith
in the change of seasons:
white rain like ash,
green arms yawning,
orange crags grinning,
brown curdle of living;
which is,
faith in cycles.

We have faith in:

The able flesh of
scarecrows
crucified in cornfields;

the midnight puzzle
of light-year
configurations;

the spark of ignition
burst
that shivers car to life;

that the names of shapes
we know
will always be known.

We have faith that
astronauts return from
roaming godless country
to find what was broken
whole again,
in which,
the heart dancing
in the right hand
is borne now in the left.
